Our history

Back in the 1940s, little Agata Zoro started learning the wonderful art of dressmaking with the nuns in sunny Sicily. She was still a girl when she realised that this was her calling, and it became her life’s dream to open her own store and sell her own dresses!

Many years later, she moved to Switzerland. Now married with two daughters, she was lucky enough to find work making luxury evening gowns in some of Zurich’s famous couture ateliers, where she continued to build on her dressmaking expertise.

In order to be closer to her daughters, she found a job as a dressmaker in a little bridal boutique in Meilen, Zurich. Agata Zoro turned metres of silk into wedding dresses, sewing opulently embroidered borders onto trains and attaching endless fabric roses and glittering stars. White veils and trains were still the stuff of her dreams...

The chance to make her dream come true presented itself in 1988, when the boutique went bankrupt. Agata Zoro wasted no time in taking over the business. Her oldest daughter Milena, who was 21 and studying fashion at Zurich University of the Arts at the time, dropped her studies and took over purchasing responsibilities, while Agata’s husband Pietro took charge of finances.

The family’s sense for fashion trends turned out to be spot on. Sisters Milena and Katia even started designing their own bridal collection – with remarkable success! The business thrived. They soon needed to move to larger premises, which they found on Pelikanplatz, Zurich in 1992.

Nowadays, Zoro is a long-established institution for exclusive bridal fashion in Europe and a mecca for brides-to-be. Daughters Milena and Katia now go on ‘wedding dress tours’ to find their next big purchase. Senior partner Agata, who is now over 70 years old, still works in the atelier every day. Doesn’t she want to put her feet up? ‘Ma no, wedding dresses are my passion!’ she says.
